MAJOR DUTIES Computes taxes and penalties due; mails tax bills; receives monies for payment of taxes.
Maintains delinquent tax records.
Coordinates and conducts tax sales on delinquent property, if necessary.
Answers telephone; responds to city-related questions and directs calls to appropriate departments.
Provides customer service to utility customers; serves as back up to utility clerk to post and deposit water payments.
Works with Hall County regarding the taxes assessed; prepares any needed changes.
Tracks and enters all incoming payments except building permit fees.
Assists auditor during year-end audit.
Performs related duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION Knowledge of state laws, city ordinances, department policies, and open-record procedures.
Knowledge of required software including Microsoft Office.

Knowledge of tax rules and requirements.

SUPERVISORY CONTROLS The Finance Director assigns work in terms of general instructions.
The director or designee spot-checks completed work for compliance with procedures, accuracy, and the nature and propriety of the final results.
GUIDELINES Guidelines include Official Code of Georgia Annotated and city ordinances.
These guidelines are generally clear and specific but may require some interpretation in application.
COMPLEXITY/SCOPE OF WORK The work consists of varied accounts receivable and reporting duties.
The unpredictability of daily issues contributes to the complexity of the position.
The purpose of this position is to accept and post payments for fees and taxes.
Success in this position helps ensure the accurate and efficient collection of accounts receivable for the city government.
CONTACTS Contacts are typically with city employees, public works department, police department, elected officials, utility customers, and the general public.
Contacts are typically to provide services; to give or exchange information; and to resolve problems.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ WORK ENVIRONMENT The work is typically performed while intermittently sitting, standing, or stooping.
The employee occasionally lifts light objects.
The work is typically performed in an office room.
SUPERVISORY AND MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITY None.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with completion of specialized training in the field of work, in addition to basic skills typically associated with a high school education.
Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to two years.
PAY GRADE Grade 16 Salary Range:
