This 1953 Mercedes-Benz 220 is one of 997 examples produced with Cabriolet B coachwork during two years of production and is said to have been purchased and refurbished in the late 1980s as a gift for its previous owner.
Finished in yellow over beige leather, the car is powered by a 2.
2-liter M180 inline-six mated to a column-shifted four-speed manual transmission.
Additional features include hydraulic drum brakes with duplex actuation up front, independent suspension with a swing-axle rear end, black-painted 15? wheels, a black convertible top, and front fog lamps.
The W187 platform was introduced in April 1951 and was initially offered with a choice of three bodies including the four-door saloon, the two-window Cabriolet A, and the Cabriolet B.
Both convertibles featured two rear-hinged doors, while the Cabriolet B incorporated a shorter rear deck that accommodated increased rear passenger room and roll-up rear windows.
Production of the Cabriolet B ended in mid-1953.
This example's body was removed from its frame and stripped to bare metal during the late-1980s refurbishment, which included a repaint in its current shade of yellow.
Features include a black convertible top with articulated Landau bars, Unity front fog lamps, bumper overriders, and a driver-side mirror.
Steel wheels are painted black and are accented by bright hubcaps and beauty rings, while 205/75 Michelin Harmony tires are mounted at each corner.
Stopping is handled by hydraulic drum brakes, which incorporate twin leading shoes at each front unit.
Suspension comprises coil springs and telescopic shock absorbers all around, with double wishbones up front and a swing-axle setup at the rear.
The cabin is trimmed in beige leather over front bucket seats and a rear bench, with matching upholstery over the door panels and rear side panels.
Ashtrays are integrated into the wood upper dash and rear side accents, which are complemented by wood door caps.
Additional features include beige carpeting, door pockets, and leather rear grab ropes.
The heating system was refreshed in 2022.
The three-spoke steering wheel hosts a chrome horn ring and sits ahead of VDO instrumentation including a 160-km/h speedometer and a clock flanking gauges monitoring oil pressure, coolant temperature, and fuel level.
